Beginning Fall 2023 I have led a pre-application support service (PASS) for applicants to the KU SPLH PhD Program. Current PhD students serve as mentors who provide guidance and support with the steps in the application process, what to expect in a PhD program, and feedback on application materials. We are learning more about the feasibility and effectiveness of programs like PASS in communication science and disorders programs by soliciting feedback from both mentors and mentees.
This service is designed to provide support to applicants in communication sciences and disorders by increasing transparency and visibility of graduate application resources. This service is available to all applicants, and we specifically encourage historically underrepresented students, including racial and ethnic minorities, first-generation students, indigenous students, LGBTQIA+ students, students with disabilities, and students from low-income families, to apply.
